Andrew Garfield praises Monica Barbaro’s talent

Andrew Garfield has shared a warm tribute to his girlfriend and co-star Monica Barbaro while continuing to promote their upcoming biographical drama Artificial. The actor, who plays OpenAI CEO Sam Altman in the highly anticipated film, spoke openly about Barbaro’s acting skills and the strong chemistry among the movie’s cast.

Garfield attended the world premiere of Artificial at the New York Film Festival on October 5. The event was held at Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center in New York, where the British-American actor discussed his experience working with the talented ensemble.

When asked what he admires most about Barbaro, Garfield did not hesitate to praise her abilities as an actress. He described her as an extremely talented performer and said he had been a fan of her work for a long time.

Garfield explained that Barbaro brings a complicated and mysterious character to life in Artificial. He praised the way she gives the role emotional depth while making the character feel realistic and human.

“She’s a wonderful actor. She’s so talented,” Garfield said while discussing his co-star.

He also expressed admiration for the way Barbaro handles the mysterious nature of her character. According to Garfield, her performance adds complexity to the story and makes her role especially interesting to watch.

The Spider-Man star also made it clear that his appreciation was not limited to Barbaro. He spoke highly of the entire cast of Artificial, describing the group as a joyful and impressive ensemble. Garfield said he was surprised by the performances of several actors throughout the production.

Among the cast members he highlighted were Matte Kranz, Will Angus, Will Price, Yura Borisov and Ike Barinholtz. Garfield had previously worked with Will Price on After the Hunt, while he had been a longtime fan of Borisov’s work before joining the new film.

Garfield said working with actors he had never previously collaborated with made the experience particularly exciting. He praised their individual talents and explained that each performer brought something different to the project.

The actor’s comments about Barbaro have also attracted attention because the two stars have been romantically linked for more than a year. Garfield and Barbaro have reportedly been quietly dating since early 2025.

The pair were seen together on several occasions before their relationship was publicly confirmed in February 2026. Their romance has since become a subject of interest among fans, particularly as they prepare to appear together on screen in Artificial.

Despite the public attention surrounding their relationship, Garfield and Barbaro have largely kept their romance private. Their professional collaboration in Artificial now gives fans an opportunity to see the pair working together in a major film.

Directed by Luca Guadagnino, Artificial explores the world surrounding the development of artificial intelligence and features Garfield as Sam Altman. The movie has generated interest because of its high-profile cast, acclaimed director and timely subject matter.

Artificial is scheduled to receive a limited theatrical release in the United States on December 25, 2026. The film is then expected to expand to more theaters in January 2027.

As promotion for the movie continues, Garfield’s latest comments offer a glimpse into his admiration for Barbaro as both a performer and co-star. His praise also highlights the strong ensemble behind Artificial, which is shaping up to be one of the notable films arriving later this year.
