ISLAMABAD: Pakistan is seeing a broader flow of financing towards housing, agriculture, small businesses, electric vehicles and exports, with the government describing the trend as a shift from economic stability towards investment and growth.

Adviser to the Finance Minister Khurram Schehzad highlighted the latest progress across several sectors in a post on X, covering developments since June 2026.

He said financing approvals under the Apna Ghar initiative had increased by 84%. Approved financing under the programme has nearly doubled to around Rs280 billion, while loan disbursements have risen by 59%.

The agriculture sector has also recorded growth in access to formal credit. According to Schehzad, around 115,000 additional borrowers have gained access to financing.

He said approvals under the Zarkhez-e programme increased by 12%, while disbursements rose by 13%, indicating stronger credit activity in the agriculture sector.

Small and medium-sized enterprises have also gained greater access to formal financing. Around 330,000 businesses are now receiving formal credit, with total financing reaching approximately Rs1.05 trillion.

Schehzad said export financing was increasingly being used for productive business needs. These include working capital, investment, refinancing and export-related incentives.

The government is also expanding financing for environmentally friendly initiatives. Approvals under the PAVE programme have increased by 24%, while disbursements have risen by 34%.

Electric vehicle deliveries have also recorded a significant increase, with deliveries more than tripling during the period highlighted by the adviser.

Schehzad said the government’s broader objective was to direct capital towards productive economic activities rather than limiting financing to traditional areas.

He said increased access to credit could create wider economic opportunities and allow more businesses, farmers, households and consumers to participate in economic growth.

The latest figures indicate a wider push to expand formal financing across key segments of the economy. Housing, agriculture, SMEs, exports and green mobility are being targeted as important areas for investment and economic activity.
