The device is being informally referred to as the “HomePad” or “Home Hub” in reports, although Apple has yet to confirm its official name. The company is reportedly developing the product as a smart speaker with a built-in display, potentially expanding its presence in the smart home market.

Analysis of the software code suggests that the device could run a modified version of tvOS. Despite the underlying software being linked to Apple TV, the interface is expected to have design elements inspired by the Apple Watch.

According to the reported findings, the HomePad’s home screen could feature options such as “Faces” and “Face Gallery”, similar to the watch-face system found on Apple Watch. Users may be able to customise these displays by adding different widgets and Smart Stacks according to their preferences.

The device could also support iPhone app widgets, allowing users to access selected information and controls directly from the smart display.

Privacy appears to be another key aspect of the reported design. Widgets containing personal information may only become visible when the user’s iPhone is nearby. Such a feature could allow the device to provide personalised information while limiting access to sensitive data when the owner is not present.

Reports also suggest that Apple is preparing two versions of the device. One model could feature an integrated speaker base, while another may be designed to be mounted on a wall.
