According to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Field Marshal Asim Munir, Naval Chief Admiral Naveed Ashraf and Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu paid tribute to Rashid Minhas for his exceptional bravery and ultimate sacrifice.

In their joint message, the armed forces chiefs said that on this day in 1971, Pilot Officer Rashid Minhas demonstrated extraordinary courage while facing a critical challenge and made the ultimate sacrifice to protect Pakistan’s sovereignty and honour. It said his legacy would continue to inspire the nation and the armed forces as a symbol of devotion to duty.

The military leadership also reaffirmed its commitment to protecting Pakistan’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and national interests, while highlighting the importance of the bond between the people and the armed forces.

President Asif Ali Zardari separately paid tribute to Rashid Minhas, who was awarded the Nishan-e-Haider, Pakistan’s highest military gallantry award.

In his message, the president said Rashid Minhas sacrificed his life for the country at a young age and established an enduring example of courage, dedication and patriotism.

President Zardari described Minhas as the youngest recipient of the Nishan-e-Haider and said his sacrifice remains an important chapter in Pakistan’s national history. According to the presidential statement, his bravery continues to convey a message of courage, determination and loyalty to the country to future generations.

The president also paid tribute to other martyrs and their families, saying the nation continues to hold their sacrifices in the highest regard.
