Arrest warrants against PTI leaders set to be enforced

Authorities have decided to accelerate the implementation of existing arrest warrants against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders wanted in various cases following the arrest of senior party leader Hammad Azhar, according to sources.

Sources said several PTI leaders facing judicial warrants could be taken into custody as authorities move to enforce warrants issued in connection with different cases, including the November 2024 protest at D-Chowk in Islamabad.

The warrants against Junaid Akbar and Abdul Ghani in cases related to the D-Chowk protest are expected to be enforced as part of the latest move.

Similarly, judicial warrants issued against Shibli Faraz and Murad Saeed in cases registered in connection with incidents at the Judicial Complex are also likely to be acted upon. Hammad Azhar, who was recently arrested, was also facing cases related to the protests.

Sources said other PTI leaders wanted in cases registered in Islamabad include Zartaj Gul, Aamir Masood Mughal, Dr Amjad Ali and Meena Khan Afridi.

Authorities have also decided to advance legal proceedings in the Faizabad protest case involving former Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister Ali Amin Gandapur and Umar Tanveer Butt.

According to sources, any arrests will be made on the basis of FIRs already registered against the leaders and judicial warrants issued by the courts. The authorities have maintained that the action will be taken in accordance with legal procedures.

Islamabad Police have reportedly been instructed to execute the court-issued warrants against PTI leaders wanted in cases registered at various police stations.

The development comes amid renewed action in cases linked to PTI protests, with authorities moving to implement outstanding judicial orders against party leaders who have been named in different cases.
