Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir chaired the 277th Corps Commanders’ Conference at General Headquarters in Rawalpindi on Friday, where the country’s security environment and internal stability were reviewed.
The military leadership resolved that any attempt to create unrest or circumstances similar to the May 9 incidents would be met with decisive action and enforcement of the law, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
The forum stressed the need for a high level of operational readiness and reaffirmed Pakistan’s stated right to defend itself against terrorism originating from Afghanistan.
The commanders also reviewed counterterrorism operations and appreciated the efforts of security and law-enforcement agencies. They emphasised that military and intelligence-based operations should be supported by measures including stronger governance at the grassroots level, public engagement, improved police capabilities and action against links between terrorism and organised crime.
The conference also discussed regional security developments. The forum welcomed the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement between Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye, describing it as an addition to the countries’ longstanding defence and strategic cooperation.
The commanders expressed solidarity with Saudi Arabia over attacks attributed to the Houthis and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to the security and sanctity of the Haramain Sharifain.
The forum also reiterated Pakistan’s position on the Kashmir dispute and its support for a resolution in accordance with relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
The commanders offered prayers for personnel of the armed forces, law-enforcement agencies and civilians who lost their lives while serving and protecting the country.
In his concluding remarks, Field Marshal Asim Munir commended the formations for their operational preparedness and professionalism. He directed commanders to further strengthen intelligence-based operations and improve combat capabilities through modern technology, enhanced training and coordination across multiple domains.
