Bilawal urges peaceful resolution in AJK tensions

Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has said that the approaching signing of the Islamabad Agreement marks a significant moment, with international attention focused on Pakistan.

In a statement, Bilawal stressed that political grievances and disputes should be resolved through democratic, constitutional, and peaceful means. He said that Parliament and the political process remain the most appropriate platforms for addressing such issues and reaffirmed his commitment to finding a political solution.

He noted that his party has already called on the Election Commission to withdraw the early election schedule. He also announced plans to establish a Truth and Reconciliation Commission to address pending complaints and ensure a fair resolution of outstanding issues.

Bilawal warned that the ongoing unrest in Azad Jammu and Kashmir is harming both the Kashmir cause and Pakistan’s international image. He said the situation is creating unnecessary opportunities for hostile forces, including the India-Israel alliance, to exploit the unrest.

He appealed to protesters to end their demonstrations peacefully and urged anyone who took the law into their own hands to surrender to local authorities and allow the legal process to proceed.

Bilawal added that the people of Kashmir should not have to endure continued protests, confrontation, and uncertainty. He said that if all stakeholders agree, the Azad Kashmir government could review notifications related to protest groups.

He also emphasized that there can be no compromise on upholding the rule of law and holding those involved in unlawful activities accountable. At the same time, he pledged to ensure that innocent individuals do not suffer because of the actions of others.
