Lahore police have registered a case against a local resident for allegedly attempting to bribe an on-duty police constable during checkpoint

LAHORE: Lahore police have registered a case against a local resident for allegedly attempting to bribe an on-duty police constable during checkpoint duty at Sagian Police Naka in the Shahdara area.

According to FIR No. 4501/26, registered at Shahdara Police Station on September 5, 2026, the incident took place at around 10:10 PM near IBX Har Chowkian, located approximately six kilometres southwest of the police station.

The FIR was lodged on the complaint of Sub-Inspector Ali Raza. According to the complainant, ASI Constable Shehzad C/15911, Constable Musaddiq HC/17526 and another constable, identified as C/10521, were performing their duties at the police checkpoint when police received information that an individual travelling on a 125cc motorcycle was allegedly involved in taking money from drivers.

Acting on the information, the police team reached the location and began monitoring the situation. Officials said they observed the suspect approaching Constable C/10521 while allegedly attempting to offer him Rs. 500 as gratification. The suspect was reportedly praising the police officers for their duties before trying to hand over the cash.

The police officials immediately intervened and apprehended the suspect at the scene. SI Ali Raza, along with another police official identified as Imran, took the man into custody and began questioning him regarding the alleged bribe attempt.

During the initial inquiry, the suspect identified himself as Waseer Rasheed, son of Rasheed Ahmed, belonging to the Sheikh caste and residing at House No. 15S/46, Chaudhry Park, Lahore.

According to the FIR, when questioned about the reason behind the payment, the suspect referred to his vehicle, an Alto bearing registration number VD-4538724. He also allegedly told the police that “orders from higher authorities” were being issued concerning bribery in matters related to border police.

Police officials subsequently informed the suspect about the legal consequences of attempting to influence or offer illegal gratification to a public servant. According to the complaint, the accused then admitted his mistake.

Following the incident, Shahdara police registered a formal case under Section 162 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC), which deals with taking gratification in order to influence a public servant.

The investigation into the matter has been assigned to ASI Muhammad Azam of Shahdara Police Station. Police said further legal action would be taken after completion of the investigation and verification of the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Police officials reiterated that strict action would be taken against individuals attempting to offer money or otherwise influence police personnel while they are performing official duties.

A senior police official told Minute Mirror that such attempts would not be tolerated and that legal proceedings would be initiated against anyone found involved in corrupt practices.

“The law will take its course. No one will be allowed to corrupt the system,” the official said.
