CCD traces cop’s killer in 90 minutes

RAWALPINDI: The Crime Control Department (CCD) Punjab has traced and killed the suspect allegedly responsible for the death of Sub-Inspector Adnan Ghayoor within around 90 minutes of the police officer being shot during an encounter in Rawalpindi.

Additional Inspector General Sohail Zafar Chatha, who heads CCD Punjab, and RPO Rawalpindi SSP Hassan Jahangir Wattoo supervised the operation, according to police sources.

The incident occurred when a CCD team was pursuing a suspect wanted in several robbery cases. Police tracked the suspect to QK Heights near Safari Phase 1, within the jurisdiction of Chaklala police station.

According to officials, the police team confronted the suspect at the location, leading to an exchange of fire. During the encounter, Sub-Inspector Adnan Ghayoor sustained a gunshot wound to the head.

The injured officer received immediate medical attention and was shifted to a hospital in critical condition. However, he succumbed to his injuries.

Following the incident, senior police officials reached the area and directed teams to launch an immediate search for the suspect. Officers also cordoned off the surrounding area as teams began efforts to locate the alleged attacker.

Police sources said CCD teams, working under the supervision of Additional IG Sohail Zafar Chatha and SSP Hassan Jahangir Wattoo, traced the suspect within approximately one and a half hours of the officer’s martyrdom.

The subsequent police operation resulted in the death of the alleged killer.

A senior official described the rapid response as an example of immediate action against those targeting law-enforcement personnel.

The CCD chief has received a special assignment from Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz to intensify efforts against crime and criminal elements across the province.

The swift police response drew strong reactions from citizens and social media users, many of whom expressed support for CCD personnel and paid tribute to the martyred officer.

Several residents said they hoped the department would maintain the same level of action against criminals operating in Rawalpindi and other parts of the province.

The death of Sub-Inspector Adnan Ghayoor has also triggered mourning within the Punjab Police. Colleagues and senior officers paid tribute to the officer and reiterated their commitment to protecting police personnel and maintaining law and order.

Police have continued their investigation into the encounter and the circumstances surrounding the officer’s death. Investigators are also working to determine whether the suspect had any accomplices involved in robbery cases or the attack on the CCD team.

Authorities said further legal and investigative action would follow as officials examine the evidence collected from the scene.

Police officials reiterated that attacks on law-enforcement personnel would receive a strong response and that teams would continue operations against individuals involved in serious crimes across Punjab.
