Over 753,000 students fail Class 9 exams across Punjab

More than 753,000 students have failed the Class 9 examinations conducted by educational boards across Punjab.

According to the available results data, a total of 1,395,475 students appeared in the examinations across all Punjab boards. Of these, 753,813 students failed, reflecting a high failure rate across several educational boards.

The Faisalabad Board recorded 196,656 candidates, with 95,948 students failing. In the Lahore Board, 280,676 students appeared, while 150,133 failed.

The Bahawalpur Board had 105,601 candidates, of whom 64,990 failed. Similarly, the Sargodha Board recorded 107,782 candidates, with 61,857 students failing.

In the Gujranwala Board, 249,252 students took the Class 9 examinations, while 133,286 failed. The Sahiwal Board had 87,093 candidates, including 49,290 unsuccessful students.

The Rawalpindi Board recorded 121,739 students, with 76,015 failing the examinations.

Meanwhile, 106,001 students appeared under the Dera Ghazi Khan Board, of whom 54,920 failed.

The Multan Board recorded 140,675 candidates. According to the available figures, 73,301 students passed the examinations.

The results show a particularly high number of unsuccessful candidates across several boards in Punjab. The situation has raised concerns about students’ academic performance, teaching standards and the effectiveness of the existing examination and education system.

The large number of failures is also likely to prompt discussions about the quality of classroom instruction, students’ preparation and the challenges faced by the provincial education sector.
