CDA to establish three modern sports Arenas in Islamabad at Rs953 million

ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) is set to establish three modern sports arenas at D-12/1, G-11/3 Markaz and F-8 Markaz at a combined estimated cost of Rs953.005 million, aiming to provide citizens with modern sports and recreational facilities closer to residential and commercial areas.

According to official details obtained by Minute Mirror, the three projects will be developed through CDA’s own resources under open competitive bidding in accordance with PPRA Rules. The initiative is being undertaken on the directions of Federal Minister for Interior Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi and under the supervision of the CDA chairman.

The official project poster carries the slogan “Healthier Citizens, Stronger Pakistan” and highlights the authority’s objective of promoting sports, healthy lifestyles and greater participation among youth and families.

The D-12/1 Sports Arena will be constructed at a cost of Rs327.416 million on a site measuring 400 feet by 460 feet, covering approximately 4.2 acres.

The G-11/3 Markaz Sports Arena has been allocated Rs317.895 million and will cover an area of 270 feet by 560 feet, equivalent to around 3.5 acres.

Meanwhile, the F-8 Markaz Sports Arena will cost Rs307.694 million and will be developed on a 345 feet by 400 feet site spanning approximately 3.2 acres.

Each sports arena is planned as an integrated recreational facility featuring a range of indoor and outdoor activities. The proposed facilities include indoor swimming pools, modern branded gyms, futsal courts, indoor and outdoor padel courts, cricket cages, basketball courts and multipurpose sports halls.

The complexes will also include indoor play areas for children, health bars and administrative blocks, along with landscaping, parking facilities and tracks.

According to the CDA’s official project details, the initiative has been planned in response to the scattered availability of sports facilities and limited access to quality indoor sporting infrastructure. The authority has also identified the need for year-round, all-weather sports facilities in the federal capital.

The projects are intended to provide multiple sporting activities at single locations while encouraging healthy and active lifestyles, particularly among young people. The facilities are also expected to support sports academies and coaching programmes, provide venues for tournaments and leagues, and promote emerging sports such as padel, futsal and cricket-cage training.

The CDA has projected that the three projects will generate around 360 employment opportunities during the construction phase, while approximately 92 jobs are expected to be created for their operation.

The authority has also stated that the arenas are planned to be self-sustaining, with the objective of reducing their long-term financial burden on CDA resources. According to the official project information, the developments are not expected to cause adverse environmental impacts.

CDA Chairman has appreciated public support for the initiative, stating that modern sports infrastructure forms an important part of the authority’s vision for developing a healthier, more vibrant and citizen-friendly Islamabad.

Official sources said the initiative would provide families, youth and sports enthusiasts with professionally planned venues offering multiple recreational and sporting activities throughout the year.

The projects are expected to strengthen sports infrastructure in Islamabad, facilitate coaching and training activities, and provide dedicated spaces for families and young people to participate in physical and recreational activities.
