China is home to many unusual buildings including a honeycomb-shaped residential complex that houses around 20,000 people. Some buildings even have trains passing through them while others appear to stand in the middle of busy highways. But did you know that China also has an apartment building designed to resemble an Egyptian pyramid?
Located in Kunshan, in China’s Jiangsu Province, this remarkable structure is truly eye-catching. It is one of China’s most famous apartment buildings. Construction was completed in 2013 and it has since become known as the Kunshan Pyramid.
Since its completion, the building has become one of the area’s popular tourist attractions. Unlike a real pyramid, the 18-story structure features two vertical exterior walls while the other two walls are slanted. The apartments descend at a 45-degree angle creating a striking architectural appearance.
The building’s unique design provides each apartment with a spacious terrace which is considered one of its major advantages. However, the unusual pyramid-like structure has also presented several challenges particularly in terms of ventilation and natural lighting inside the apartments.
