Como storm top of serie A after Genoa comeback

GENOA: Como produced a stunning comeback at Genoa on Friday, racing to the top of the Serie A table with an impressive 4-1 victory inspired by Senegalese youngster Assane Diao.

Cesc Fabregas’s ambitious side fell behind early but responded with four unanswered goals to secure their second win of the campaign. Como now have seven points from three matches, giving them an early lead in Italy’s top flight.

The result adds to the growing excitement around a club that enjoyed a remarkable campaign last season, finishing fourth and securing Champions League qualification for the first time in their history.

Como’s start to the new season has been particularly unusual because they have yet to play a home match. Renovation work at the Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia has forced the club to begin the campaign away from home.

Genoa appeared to have made the perfect start when Milutin Osmajic opened the scoring in the 19th minute. The striker completed a swift counter-attack by powering Lorenzo Colombo’s low cross beyond the goalkeeper.

But Como responded almost immediately.

Six minutes later, Martin Baturina restored parity with a superb long-range effort that flew into the bottom corner. The visitors then completed their turnaround before half-time when Diao produced a composed volley to put Como ahead.

The visitors continued to punish Genoa after the break. Nico Paz added a third in the 34th minute, finishing emphatically into the roof of the net after being played through by Yan Couto. It was the 20-year-old’s first goal of the season.

Diao then put the result beyond doubt with 12 minutes remaining.

The Senegalese forward calmly slotted the ball into the corner after excellent hold-up play from Moise Kean, who made his Como debut after joining on loan from Fiorentina on deadline day.

The emphatic victory leaves Como dreaming big once again as Fabregas’s side make an eye-catching start to the Serie A season.
