The matter came under discussion during a hearing conducted by Assistant Director Consumer Protection Gujrat Chaudhry Muhammad Farooq, who said the department was actively working to safeguard consumer rights in line with the consumer-friendly vision of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz and the directions of relevant authorities.
According to the complaint filed by Atif Javed, the machine had been dispatched from Karachi in a sealed package after being imported from China. However, when the shipment was received at Kharian, the seal on the packing was found broken and an important part of the machine was allegedly missing.
During the proceedings, Daewoo Pakistan was represented by Kharian Station Manager Abdul Rauf. He requested one week’s time to conduct a detailed inquiry into the matter and assured the department that CCTV footage and DVR recordings would be examined to determine where and how the alleged tampering occurred.
The company representative told the hearing that all available records would be reviewed and responsibility would be fixed if any negligence or mishandling was established during the investigation.
Assistant Director Chaudhry Muhammad Farooq directed the transport company to ensure a transparent and merit-based inquiry and stressed that the rights of the consumer must be fully protected.
He said the Consumer Protection Department would monitor the case and ensure that the complaint was resolved in accordance with the law and available evidence.
Officials also urged citizens to obtain receipts whenever purchasing goods or availing services, saying documentary proof helps consumers pursue claims in case of disputes.
The public was further encouraged to use the Consumer Protection App for lodging complaints and seeking legal relief against unfair trade practices or service-related issues.
The case will be taken up again after submission of the inquiry report by Daewoo Pakistan.
