A convicted drug smuggler escaped from Benazir Bhutto Hospital in Rawalpindi while receiving medical treatment after authorities transferred him from Adiala Jail, according to police officials.
The fugitive, identified as Jameel, was serving a nine-year prison sentence after a court found him guilty of drug trafficking. Authorities had moved him from Adiala Jail to the hospital for medical care when the escape took place.
Police reported that Jameel’s son, Adnan, along with an unidentified accomplice, allegedly helped him flee. According to the First Information Report (FIR), the two men wheeled Jameel out of the hospital ward in a wheelchair, escorted him outside, and then placed him in a vehicle before leaving the scene.
Following the incident, Rawalpindi Police registered a case at Waris Khan Police Station. Investigators also named Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Imran Ahmed and Constable Qamar Ali in the case, as both officers were responsible for guarding the prisoner at the time of the escape.
The incident has raised serious concerns about security arrangements for inmates receiving treatment outside prison facilities. Police have launched a search operation to track down the escaped convict and arrest those involved in facilitating his escape.
Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine how the prisoner managed to evade custody and whether any additional individuals assisted in the escape.
