CSS 2026 result out: only 476 candidates clear written exam

ISLAMABAD: The wait is finally over for thousands of aspiring civil servants as the Federal Public Service Commission (FPSC) has announced the CSS 2026 written examination result, revealing an exceptionally low success rate.

According to the FPSC result announced on August 31, 2026, only 476 candidates out of 24,321 applicants have qualified for the next stage of the highly competitive Central Superior Services examination.

The written examination was conducted from February 4 to 15, 2026, with candidates competing for a place in Pakistan’s federal civil service. The overall written examination pass percentage stood at 2.74 per cent.

Just 476 Candidates Make the Cut

Of the 24,321 candidates who applied for the examination, 17,351 appeared in at least one paper, while 16,342 candidates appeared in all papers.

Among those who successfully cleared the written examination, 239 are male candidates and 237 are female candidates, making the gender distribution among successful candidates almost evenly balanced.

The figures once again underline the formidable challenge posed by the CSS examination, which is widely regarded as one of Pakistan’s toughest competitive examinations.

The names of successful candidates have been placed in Annex-A on the FPSC website, allowing candidates to check whether they have secured a place in the next phase.

MPT Had Thousands More Qualifiers

Before reaching the written examination, candidates were required to clear the MCQs-Based Preliminary Test (MPT) 2026.

FPSC said 63,368 candidates applied for the MPT, while 43,189 appeared. Of these, 36,758 candidates passed, including 20,625 males and 16,133 females.

Only candidates who successfully cleared the MPT were eligible to appear in the main written examination. FPSC had made qualifying the preliminary test mandatory for CSS 2026.

What Happens After the Written Result?

For the 476 successful candidates, the journey is not over yet. FPSC said the schedule for the medical examination, psychological assessment and viva voce will be announced later.

Candidates have been advised to regularly visit the commission’s official website for updates and schedules. FPSC describes its recruitment process as merit-based and focused on transparency and equal opportunity.

The CSS 2026 result therefore marks another major milestone for hundreds of candidates — while also highlighting just how narrow the path to Pakistan’s civil service remains.
