Balochistan CM hails Indus Waters Treaty ruling

Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti has welcomed the ruling by the international arbitration court on the Indus Waters Treaty, saying the decision vindicates Pakistan’s longstanding legal position and strengthens the country’s case on water rights.

In a statement, Bugti said the court had made it clear that India could not unilaterally suspend or terminate the Indus Waters Treaty. He added that the agreement remains in force and continues to legally bind India.

The chief minister said any amendment to or termination of the treaty could only take place with the mutual consent of both countries, rejecting any attempt to alter the agreement through unilateral action.

Bugti described the ruling as an important development for protecting Pakistan’s longstanding water rights and national interests. He said the decision would help reinforce Pakistan’s position on the equitable use and management of shared water resources.

He further stressed that Pakistan would continue to pursue its water-related rights through legal and diplomatic forums and would take all necessary steps to safeguard its interests.

According to Bugti, the international arbitration court’s decision represents a significant affirmation of Pakistan’s legal stance and demonstrates the strength of the country’s position regarding the Indus Waters Treaty.
