Daniel Radcliffe takes on unique prince role in Netflix fairy tale

Daniel Radcliffe is stepping into a magical new world, but this time, fans won’t see him wielding a wand. Instead, the Harry Potter star is lending his voice to an unconventional prince in Netflix’s upcoming animated fantasy film, Steps, a fresh and imaginative retelling of the classic Cinderella story. The exciting casting announcement has added even more star power to one of Netflix Animation’s most anticipated releases. 

Unlike traditional Cinderella adaptations, Steps shifts the spotlight away from the famous princess and instead follows her misunderstood stepsisters. The story centers on Lilith, voiced by comedian and actress Ali Wong, who is blamed for causing chaos at the Royal Ball after stealing the Fairy Godmother’s magical wand. During the confusion, she accidentally transforms her sister Margot, voiced by Stephanie Hsu, into a frog, setting off a magical adventure to save the kingdom. 

Daniel Radcliffe will voice the Prince, but filmmakers promise this royal character will be far from the typical fairy-tale hero. Co-director John Ripa revealed that the creative team wanted a prince unlike any audiences had seen before, praising Radcliffe for bringing warmth, humor and a unique personality to the role. According to Ripa, the actor perfectly captured the fresh vision they had for the beloved fairy-tale character. 

The film boasts an impressive voice cast alongside Radcliffe. Amanda Seyfried stars as Cinderella, while Bette Midler voices the Fairy Godmother. Peter Dinklage joins the cast as Roderick, Young Mazino voices Gef, and Nikki Glaser plays the villainous Priscilla. Together, the ensemble promises a colorful mix of comedy, adventure and heartfelt storytelling. 

Produced by Netflix Animation Studios and Amy Poehler’s Paper Kite Productions, Steps aims to challenge classic fairy-tale stereotypes by giving depth to characters who have traditionally been viewed as villains. Rather than telling the familiar Cinderella story, the film explores redemption, family relationships and the idea that everyone deserves their own happily ever after. 

The animated feature is scheduled to premiere on Netflix on November 20, 2026, marking the first feature film to be fully produced in-house by Netflix Animation Studios. With its modern storytelling, visually rich fantasy world and an all-star voice cast, Steps is already generating excitement among animation fans and movie lovers alike. 

For Daniel Radcliffe, the project represents another bold career move, allowing him to move beyond the roles that made him famous while embracing a fun and refreshing take on a timeless fairy tale. If the early details are any indication, Steps could become one of Netflix’s standout animated releases of the year.
