LAHORE: The Punjab Auqaf Department has completed the rehabilitation of the Girls Vocational Training Institute at Data Darbar Hospital, while an extensive modernization project is also underway at the hospital to improve healthcare services for the public.
Secretary and Chief Administrator Auqaf Punjab, Dr. Ehsan Bhutta, said the provision of quality infrastructure for vocational training and healthcare remains a key priority of the department. During a visit to the institute, he noted that the facility had previously been in a severely deteriorated condition, forcing female trainees to learn vocational skills in an unsuitable environment.
Dr. Bhutta said restoring the institute into a safe, modern, and dignified learning space was among his immediate objectives. He expressed satisfaction that the project had been successfully completed with the support of a private donor.
The rehabilitation work included the complete renovation of training rooms, exterior weather-shield painting, refurbishment and reinstallation of roofing sheets, and a comprehensive cleanliness campaign. Following a joint inspection with the institute’s trainer, regular classes for the first batch of 30 female students officially resumed this week in the upgraded facility.
Speaking about developments at Data Darbar Hospital, Dr. Bhutta announced that a large-scale revamping and remodeling project is in progress to provide patients with modern healthcare services under one roof. The initiative includes the restructuring of medical wards, the establishment of a modern Mother and Child Ward, and the upgrading of the General Ward with advanced medical equipment and improved facilities.
He thanked Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz for returning the hospital’s management to the Auqaf Department and reaffirmed the department’s commitment to transforming Data Darbar Hospital into a state-of-the-art healthcare institution. He said every available resource would be utilized to ensure that underprivileged communities have access to modern and quality medical care.
