Dutch motorway crash injures 16 German students

A coach carrying more than 50 German high-school students crashed in the eastern Netherlands early Monday, leaving 16 people injured, according to Dutch authorities.

The accident occurred near Wezep, about 100 kilometres east of Amsterdam, at around 4 a.m. local time. The coach, which was registered in Austria, collided with a delivery van, police said.

Sixteen people were taken to hospital following the crash. Eight of them sustained serious injuries, while the remaining victims suffered minor injuries, according to authorities in Gelderland province.

Emergency services rushed to the scene after the collision. Rescue workers dealt with the damaged vehicles and assisted passengers before those injured were transported to nearby hospitals.

The driver of the delivery van was also among those injured in the crash. Authorities have not yet released further details about the identities or conditions of those involved.
