Easy ways to cool your Car in summer

Opening a car door on a hot summer day can feel like stepping into an oven. The seats may be burning hot the steering wheel can be difficult to touch and the air inside can feel uncomfortable.

But there is a simple way to remove some of the trapped heat before turning on the AC.

Open a Window and move the door

Slightly open one window then open and close the opposite door several times.  This helps push the hot air out of the car while allowing cooler outside air to enter.

It works because hot air gets trapped inside a car when it sits under direct sunlight. Moving the door creates airflow and helps replace the hot air with fresh air.

The process takes only a few seconds and can make the car more comfortable before you switch on the AC.

Use Sunshades

Sunshades can block sunlight from entering through the windshield and windows. A reflective windshield shade is especially useful because it helps keep the dashboard steering wheel and seats from becoming extremely hot.

This can be even more helpful in cars with dark interiors as dark surfaces tend to absorb more heat.

Leave the windows slightly open

If it is safe to do so leaving the windows slightly open while the car is parked can allow some hot air to escape.  However never do this if it creates a security risk or if weather conditions could damage the car.

Try Ice packs

Ice packs or frozen water bottles can also provide some temporary relief. You can place them near the air vents while using the car’s fan on fresh air mode.  The moving air can feel cooler as it passes around the cold packs.

This will not work like an AC but it may provide some extra comfort.

Cover the seats and steering wheel

Covering hot seats and the steering wheel with a light colored towel or cloth can help protect them from direct sunlight. It can also make them more comfortable to touch when you return to the car.

These simple steps can help reduce the heat inside your vehicle and make your AC work more effectively once you turn it on.
