TikTok may add money transfers

TikTok is reportedly working on a new feature that could allow users to send money directly to their friends through private messages.

According to a Bloomberg report the social media platform is exploring a money-transfer option that may be linked to TikTok Pay.  Code related to the feature was reportedly found inside the TikTok iPhone app in the United States.

If introduced users may be able to send money along with a personal message through their direct chats.

However, TikTok has said that the feature is not currently being tested.  This suggests that the idea is still in its  early stages and there is no confirmed launch date yet.

It is also unclear which countries will get access to the service if TikTok officially introduces it.

TikTok has already been expanding into financial services. Through TikTok Pay the company supports shopping payments on TikTok Shop in parts of Southeast Asia.

Reports also say that TikTok applied to Brazil’s central bank in early 2026 for permission to operate as a financial technology company.

The plans reportedly include offering payment and lending services. The platform is also moving beyond short videos with services such as search TikTok Shop, discovery maps games and hotel bookings.

If money transfers through direct messages become available it could make TikTok more useful for everyday payments while helping the company expand further into the financial services industry.
