The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) has approved the export of 108,000 metric tons of sugar from stocks held by the Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP), according to the Ministry of Finance.
The decision was taken during an ECC meeting chaired by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb. The committee approved the issuance of international tenders for the export of the sugar under the applicable rules of the Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (PPRA).
According to the Finance Ministry, the approved quantity represents sugar currently held by the Trading Corporation of Pakistan. The stock is part of the remaining supply from approximately 300,000 metric tons of sugar that had been imported last year.
The approval allows the government to proceed with the sale of the available stock through an international tendering process. Under the decision, interested international buyers will be able to participate in the tender process in accordance with PPRA regulations.
The ECC’s decision comes as the government continues to manage sugar stocks and balance domestic supply with market requirements. The release of surplus or previously imported stocks for export can also help reduce pressure on government-held inventories.
Officials have emphasized that the tendering process will be conducted according to established procurement procedures. The international bidding process is expected to determine buyers and the final terms for the export of the sugar.
The government’s decision to export the remaining stock is also significant for the country’s sugar market, where availability, prices and supply management remain closely watched by consumers, traders and industry stakeholders.
The Ministry of Finance has not indicated when the sugar shipments will begin or what revenue the government expects to generate from the exports. Further details are likely to emerge once the international tendering process is launched.
The ECC is responsible for coordinating major economic decisions involving different government ministries and plays a key role in approving measures related to trade, energy, food supplies and other economic matter
