Elon Musk plans to rename SpaceX AI unit SpaceXSI

SpaceX chief executive Elon Musk has said the company plans to rename its artificial intelligence division from SpaceXAI to SpaceXSI, following a push by US President Donald Trump to use the term “super intelligence.”

Musk confirmed the proposed change in a response to a user on X. The user had asked whether SpaceXAI would be renamed SpaceXSI. Musk replied that the company would make the change.

The proposed name appears to reflect Trump’s recent preference for the term “super intelligence” over “artificial intelligence”. Trump has argued that the new terminology is more accurate and should be adopted in official US documents.

However, SpaceX had not yet changed the name of the division’s X account at the time of the report. Musk also did not disclose when the rebranding would officially take place.

No further details were provided about the planned change. SpaceXAI also had not immediately commented on the reported rebranding.

Trump raised the terminology issue during a speech at the United Nations General Assembly last month. He said US government documents should move away from the term “artificial intelligence” and instead use “super intelligence”.

Musk’s announcement comes as the technology industry continues to invest heavily in advanced AI systems and the development of increasingly powerful models. The proposed SpaceXSI name would align Musk’s company with the terminology recently promoted by the US president.

For now, the change remains a planned rebranding, with no official timeline announced by SpaceX.
