US actress Emily Bader has said she felt nervous about taking on the role of Jenna Rink, played by Jennifer Garner in the 2004 romantic comedy 13 Going on 30, in an upcoming reboot of the film.
“I was paranoid a little bit,” Bader told E! News at the Airbnb.org Gala on October 28. “I was like, ‘OK, I have to make sure — I want to live up to this.’”
Garner, who is executive producing the new film, offered Bader advice before filming began.
“She said, ‘My only advice for you is to have the best summer of your life,’” Bader recalled. “And then I hung up and I was like, ‘That’s terrible advice. What do I do with that?’”
Bader later said Garner’s advice had proved right, describing the filming experience as “the best summer ever”.
The actress also said she hoped the new film would introduce the story to a younger audience.
“It felt like a good time to be able to sort of reinvent this story for the new generation of people, so that they can feel the same way that I feel about that movie,” Bader said.
The reboot stars Bader and Logan Lerman, with Jessica Alba among the cast. Brett Haley is directing the film, while Garner is serving as an executive producer.
Netflix has not announced a release date for the film.
