The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has revealed a 16-member squad for the upcoming ODI tri-series involving England, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
The tournament is scheduled to take place in Lahore and Rawalpindi from October 18 to 31 with the competition also serving as part of England’s preparations for the 2027 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup.
Harry Brook will remain England’s captain after leading the team to a 2-1 ODI series victory over Sri Lanka in their recent home series. He will once again take charge as England begin preparations for the upcoming international assignments.
The squad receives a boost with the return of experienced players Adil Rashid and Sam Curran. Rashid is back after recovering from a hand problem while Curran has recovered from a groin injury and returns to the England setup.
Jos Buttler however will not travel to Pakistan. The experienced batter and wicketkeeper suffered a hamstring injury during the second ODI against Sri Lanka.
Jordan Cox stepped up in Buttler’s absence and produced an impressive performance in the series decider at The Oval. He scored 76 from 52 deliveries and also contributed behind the wickets as England posted 355.
Fast bowler Jofra Archer has been left out of the tour as part of a decision to rest him. Meanwhile, Mason Crane has earned his first ODI call-up. The leg-spinner previously appeared in one Test for England during the 2018 Ashes in Sydney and has also featured in two T20 internationals.
Two younger players have also been included. All-rounder James Coles, 22 and fast bowler Henry Crocombe, 21 have been rewarded with places after featuring in England’s white-ball squads for the Sri Lanka series.
England will open their tri-series campaign against Pakistan in Rawalpindi on October 20. The tournament will feature a league stage before the top two teams meet in the final on October 31.
The competition is expected to provide valuable preparation for the teams ahead of the 2027 Cricket World Cup.
