FACT CHECK: Viral FIR alleging sexual assault of serving SP in Attock is fabricated

A viral claim circulating on social media alleging that Attock City Police registered an FIR against two constables

LAHORE/ATTOCK: A viral claim circulating on social media alleging that Attock City Police registered an FIR against two constables over the alleged sexual assault of a serving Superintendent of Police (SP) has been found to be false.

The posts, which circulated alongside an alleged FIR numbered 248/2026 and a photograph purportedly showing the alleged victim, were examined by the Minute Mirror Fact Check Cell through document verification, date analysis, image verification and cross-checking of judicial records.

The available records do not support the claim, while both the FIR number and photograph being circulated appear to have been taken from unrelated material.

FIR NUMBER DOES NOT MATCH CLAIM

As part of the verification process, FIR No. 248/2026 was checked against the Punjab District Judiciary Case Management System.

The judicial record associated with the cited case number does not concern a sexual offence or an alleged assault on a police officer. Instead, the record relates to a case registered under Section 381 of the Pakistan Penal Code, a provision concerning theft.

The case was also shown as having been disposed of by District Court Attock Judge Abdul Khan on May 21, 2026.

This information directly conflicts with the FIR being circulated on social media, which carries different allegations and sections. The discrepancy indicates that the viral document does not correspond to the judicial record associated with the cited FIR number.

DATE DISCREPANCY RAISES FURTHER QUESTIONS

The alleged FIR circulating online bears the date September 24, 2026.

However, the judicial record linked to FIR No. 248/2026 shows that the corresponding case had already been disposed of on May 21, 2026.

The chronological mismatch is significant because the same FIR number cannot ordinarily be used to create a new case months after the earlier matter associated with that number had already been concluded.

The date discrepancy therefore provides another indication that the document circulating online is not an authentic copy of the claimed FIR.

VIRAL PHOTOGRAPH IS FROM AN UNRELATED 2024 CASE

The photograph accompanying the claim was also examined.

Image verification indicates that the photograph is not of an Attock SP involved in a 2026 incident. The same image was previously circulated in connection with a Punjab Police case from July 2024 involving a man accused of impersonating a police officer on social media.

According to police information issued at the time, the suspect had allegedly used police-related items, including a uniform, SP rank stars and a baton, while posing as an officer.

The old photograph has now apparently been reused in an unrelated narrative to make the current social media claim appear authentic.

VERDICT: FALSE

The evidence reviewed by the Minute Mirror Fact Check Cell does not support the viral allegation.

The cited FIR number corresponds to an unrelated case, the dates are inconsistent, and the photograph is from an earlier and unrelated incident.

Status: FALSE / FABRICATED

The public is advised to avoid forwarding the claim or the alleged FIR without verification. Fact-checking sensitive allegations requires checking the original document, date, image and relevant official or judicial records rather than relying on viral posts.
