Ewan Mitchell is reportedly being considered for a villain role in the upcoming James Bond movie, according to a new industry rumour.
The House of the Dragon star, best known for playing Prince Aemond Targaryen in the HBO fantasy series, is said to be in the running for a part in the next 007 film. However, Mitchell has not publicly commented on the report, and Amazon has not announced any casting details for Bond 26.
The upcoming movie will mark a new chapter for the long-running James Bond franchise. Amazon is developing a reboot following Daniel Craig’s departure from the iconic role after his final appearance in No Time to Die in 2021. The studio gained control of the Bond franchise through a deal reportedly worth around $1 billion.
While the story details remain under wraps, the film has already attracted major talent behind the camera. Denis Villeneuve, the filmmaker behind Dune and several other major productions, has been confirmed as the director of Bond 26. Steven Knight, the creator of Peaky Blinders, is writing the screenplay.
Despite the involvement of well-known filmmakers, casting for the movie has been kept highly secretive. Amazon has confirmed that the search for the next James Bond is underway, but the studio has yet to reveal who will take over from Craig.
The latest rumour about Mitchell comes on October 5, a date celebrated by Bond fans around the world as James Bond Day. The day also marks the release of Dr. No in 1962, the first film in the James Bond movie series.
Because of the timing, some fans have speculated that Amazon could use this year’s James Bond Day to share new information about the upcoming film. However, there has been no official confirmation that a major casting announcement is planned.
Producer Amy Pascal previously indicated that the next actor to play James Bond is expected to be chosen by the end of 2026. Several high-profile names have already been linked with the famous role, including Tom Holland, Taron Egerton, Callum Turner, Jack Lowden and Jack O’Connell.
However, none of those actors has been officially confirmed as the next 007. The studio is expected to take its time before making a final decision, as the choice will shape the future of one of cinema’s most famous franchises.
Mitchell’s possible involvement is also attracting attention because of his growing popularity. His performance as Aemond Targaryen in House of the Dragon has helped establish him as one of the series’ standout young actors. His character has become one of the most important figures in the story, giving Mitchell plenty of opportunities to show his ability to play a darker and more complex character.
Mitchell recently appeared in the third season of House of the Dragon. The HBO series is expected to end with its fourth season in 2028. Meanwhile, the wider Game of Thrones universe continues to grow through planned spin-offs and other projects.
If Mitchell does join Bond 26 as a villain, it would give the actor a major role in another globally recognised franchise. For now, however, his reported involvement remains unconfirmed, with fans still waiting for Amazon to reveal the cast and officially introduce the next era of James Bond.
