Pakistani singer Faisal Kapadia has opened up about his deep connection with India, revealing how his family roots, childhood memories and personal relationships have shaped his perspective on the neighbouring country.

Kapadia, who was born in Pakistan to parents who migrated from India, said India has always been more than just a neighbouring country for him. His family has strong roots in the Indian state of Gujarat, while his wife’s family comes from Mumbai.

“My whole family is actually from Hindustan. My nana and nani were from Rajkot, as were my parents. My whole extended family — my uncles, aunts, etc. — are still in those areas,” Kapadia shared.

The singer recalled regularly travelling to India during his childhood. He said that from 1977 onwards, he visited the country almost every year during his vacations, travelling to Rajkot and his family’s village, Charkila.

Kapadia also explained that his connection to India became even more meaningful because of his family ties. His wife’s entire family is from Bombay, while his parents moved to Pakistan before he was born.

However, political tensions between Pakistan and India have made travelling across the border increasingly difficult. Despite this, Kapadia said his family continues to maintain strong relationships with their relatives in India.

Since visiting the country is no longer easy, the families have found another way to remain connected by arranging meetings in Dubai.

Kapadia believes political disagreements should not destroy the personal relationships shared by ordinary people on both sides of the border. According to him, governments may have their own concerns and political matters, but people should continue valuing relationships built over generations.

He stressed that human-to-human communication is especially important for artists, who can help create understanding beyond political boundaries.

“As a Pakistani, I think this human-to-human communication is so important,” he said, adding that political issues have existed throughout his lifetime but should not prevent people from maintaining personal connections.

Alongside discussing his family background, Kapadia also reflected on his musical journey and his decision to return to music after taking a break from the industry.

The singer admitted that he stepped away from music for some time, but an encounter with legendary vocalist Abida Parveen changed his outlook.

Kapadia recalled meeting Parveen and being inspired by her belief that artists should continue learning throughout their lives. Her humble approach to music encouraged him to look at his own career differently.

Following that inspiration, he travelled to Poland and attended a 15-day vocal camp as a student. The experience marked the beginning of a new chapter in his musical journey.

Kapadia said he is now enjoying creating music again, but his priorities have changed. Instead of focusing on fame, recognition or numbers, he wants to improve himself as a musician.

He described his current phase as a completely new journey, beginning with zero subscribers and giving him the opportunity to build his audience again.

Reflecting on his album Zindagi Jahaan Le Jaaye, Kapadia said its opening track carries an important message about not becoming obsessed with achievements or awards.

Turning 50 also made him reconsider his definition of success. He believes life should not be measured only through positions, numbers or professional recognition.

For Kapadia, happiness and enjoying the journey have now become more important than chasing fame. His return to music is therefore not simply a comeback but a personal journey focused on growth, creativity and becoming a better musician.
