ISLAMABAD: Chairman Capital Development Authority (CDA) conducted an early-morning inspection of Babar Park, the Emergency and Disaster Management and Rescue 1122 Headquarters and several other areas of Islamabad during heavy rainfall, reviewing drainage, sanitation, traffic flow and emergency response arrangements across the capital.

During his visit to Babar Park, the CDA chairman inspected ongoing development, renovation, landscaping, green-area improvement and public facility works. He directed the concerned officers to accelerate the pace of development and ensure that all projects are completed within the stipulated timelines and according to prescribed standards.

The chairman also stressed that the park’s green character, landscaping, cleanliness, aesthetics and public facilities must receive equal attention alongside development works. He directed officials to take coordinated measures to transform Babar Park into a high-quality recreational facility for citizens.

Amid the rainfall, he also reviewed drainage arrangements and the accumulation of rainwater at the park. Officials were directed to ensure prompt drainage and complete cleaning and restoration activities without delay.

The CDA chairman subsequently visited the Emergency and Disaster Management and Rescue 1122 Headquarters, where he reviewed emergency response arrangements, dewatering operations, rescue activities and measures being taken to assist citizens during the adverse weather.

Officials briefed him on field operations, the monitoring of vulnerable and low-lying areas, dewatering arrangements and the overall emergency response mechanism. The chairman directed all emergency teams to remain fully alert and maintain continuous surveillance of sensitive locations, stressing that assistance should reach citizens immediately whenever an emergency occurs.

He also inspected several major roads, underpasses and low-lying and sensitive areas across Islamabad to assess the impact of rainfall on drainage, sanitation and traffic movement. Officers of the district administration, including Assistant Commissioners and the Additional Deputy Commissioner (General), remained deployed at different locations to monitor the situation and coordinate with relevant departments.

CDA’s Sanitation Department and Environment Wing also remained active throughout the rainfall. Field teams worked to clear rainwater, mud, soil and debris from major roads, thoroughfares, drainage points and other important locations. Cleaning and restoration operations were simultaneously carried out in green areas and other affected sites to minimise inconvenience to residents.

The chairman directed officials to maintain smooth traffic flow and ensure that roads, drains, underpasses and other key routes remain accessible during and after the rainfall. He emphasised that drainage and road-clearance operations should continue until normal civic movement is fully restored.

Close coordination among CDA, Emergency and Disaster Management, Rescue 1122, the Sanitation Department, Environment Wing and District Administration was also reviewed to ensure a rapid response to any emergency situation.

The CDA chairman stressed that the safety, convenience and mobility of citizens must remain the top priority during severe weather. He directed all departments and field teams to remain proactive, continuously monitor vulnerable locations and immediately undertake dewatering, drainage, cleaning and restoration wherever required.

Despite the heavy rainfall, CDA and allied departments remained mobilised across the capital to maintain civic services, clear affected areas and facilitate safe movement. The authority reiterated its commitment to using available resources to keep Islamabad safe, clean, green and accessible, while ensuring effective drainage and uninterrupted civic services during adverse weather conditions.
