Fakhar Zaman eyes Tri-Series glory in World Cup 2027 build-up

RAWALPINDI: Pakistan opener Fakhar Zaman believes the upcoming ODI tri-series against England and Sri Lanka will play a crucial role in preparing the national team for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2027.

The experienced left-handed batter highlighted the importance of team combination and preparation, noting that the pitches being prepared for the series reflect Pakistan’s focus on next year’s global tournament.

Fakhar, who has scored 11 ODI centuries and averages 45.42 in 92 matches, is expected to play an important role in Pakistan’s World Cup campaign. The tournament will be jointly hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia.

Speaking to the media, Fakhar expressed confidence in Pakistan’s squad and stressed that the players’ recent first-class cricket experience would benefit them in the 50-over format. He explained that longer-format cricket helps players develop mental resilience, improve fitness and adapt more effectively to the demands of ODI matches.

The Pakistan batter also acknowledged the team’s desire to end its prolonged wait for a major international trophy. He said that players across the squad were motivated to improve their performances and deliver results that would make supporters proud.

Fakhar added that the team would approach the tri-series with determination, aiming to turn its preparations into success on the field while building momentum for the World Cup.

Pakistan will begin its tri-series campaign against Sri Lanka on October 18 at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, with England completing the three-team competition.
