Pakistan fast bowler Akif Javed has declared himself fully fit and said he is hopeful of returning to the national team after working hard on his fitness.

LAHORE: Pakistan fast bowler Akif Javed has declared himself fully fit and said he is hopeful of returning to the national team after working hard on his fitness.

The 25-year-old pacer is currently attending the National Cricket Academy’s (NCA) bowlers development camp in Lahore, where he is focusing on improving his skills and preparing for international cricket.

Speaking to Geo News, Akif said he had worked extensively on his fitness and was now ready to make his comeback.

“I have worked hard on my fitness. Now I am completely fit and hope to join the national cricket team soon,” he said.

Akif made his One-Day International debut for Pakistan during the team’s tour of New Zealand in 2025. However, fitness issues subsequently affected his progress.

He said he had been working regularly on his fitness because maintaining and increasing bowling pace required a combination of proper diet and physical conditioning.

“I am working hard on my fitness regularly because speed is maintained and increased with diet and fitness,” he said.

The pacer said the ongoing NCA camp was helping him work on areas required for success in international cricket.

“In the camp, we are working on the points that are important in international cricket. I am also working on my line and length, which are most important along with speed,” he said.

Akif also expressed confidence about representing Pakistan at the Asian Games, saying he was fully fit and determined to make his return to the national side.

“I am part of the Asian Games. I am absolutely fit and will definitely come back,” he said.

The fast bowler also stressed the importance of hard work for modern-day pacers, particularly in white-ball cricket.

“Nowadays, fast bowlers need to work hard. Bowlers have to work on different aspects of their game in white-ball cricket,” Akif said.

The NCA camp is part of Pakistan’s efforts to develop and prepare fast-bowling talent for future international assignments. Akif will be hoping his performances and improved fitness can put him back in contention for national selection.
