FIA arrests suspected human smuggler over rs442,000 UAE job scam

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has arrested a suspected human smuggler in Islamabad for allegedly defrauding a citizen of Rs442,000 after promising him employment and legal travel to the United Arab Emirates.

According to FIA officials, the agency’s Anti-Human Trafficking Cell (AHTC), Islamabad Zone, arrested Sami Ahmad, son of Chaman Mahboob, in connection with Case No. 123/26.

The suspect has been booked under Sections 406, 420, 468 and 109 of the Pakistan Penal Code, relating to criminal breach of trust, cheating, forgery and abetment.

FIA sources said the suspect allegedly received Rs442,000 from the complainant after assuring him that he would arrange employment and facilitate his travel to the UAE.

However, the promised arrangements were reportedly not made. The suspect allegedly failed to fulfil his commitment and subsequently went into hiding, prompting the complainant to approach the FIA.

Following receipt of the complaint, an AHTC team conducted a raid and arrested the suspect.

The operation was carried out by Inspector Muhammad Azeem and ASI Mazhar Shah, according to FIA officials.

The agency said further investigation was underway to determine the full scope of the alleged fraud and establish whether other people were involved.

Investigators are also expected to examine whether additional victims may have been targeted through similar overseas employment offers and whether the suspect had links with other agents or facilitators.

The case highlights the risks faced by Pakistanis seeking employment abroad, particularly those who rely on unofficial agents promising quick jobs and overseas travel.

The FIA reiterated its commitment to taking legal action against individuals involved in human smuggling, visa fraud and the exploitation of citizens through fake overseas employment schemes.

The agency also urged citizens to exercise caution before handing money or personal documents to travel or employment agents.

Authorities advised prospective overseas workers to verify job offers, recruitment agencies and travel arrangements through registered and authorised channels.

The investigation will now determine the allegations against the arrested suspect and identify any other individuals who may have facilitated the alleged scheme.

The FIA said action would be taken against all those found involved in the case in accordance with the law.
