Nankana DSP suspended over misconduct, inefficiency

LAHORE: Punjab Police has suspended a senior police officer serving as Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Nankana over allegations of misconduct and inefficiency, according to an official notification issued on Wednesday.

The Punjab Police Department said DSP Zulfiqar Ali (SA/286, C/24, BS-17), who was serving as SDPO Nankana in District Nankana Sahib, had been placed under suspension with immediate effect.

The order, issued under Notification No. 122/2026/PS/HQ and signed by Punjab Inspector General of Police Abdul Kareem, PSP, states that the officer was suspended on account of “misconduct / inefficiency”.

Following the suspension, the officer has been directed to report to the Central Police Office (CPO), Punjab, Lahore, where he will remain closed to the office until further orders.

The notification has been circulated among relevant police authorities, including the Regional Police Officer Sheikhupura, District Police Officer Nankana Sahib, Additional Inspector General Discipline at the CPO and the Director Public Relations of Punjab Police.

The department has not publicly disclosed specific details of the alleged misconduct or inefficiency that led to the suspension.

The action comes as Punjab Police continues to emphasise accountability, discipline and improved service delivery among its officers. The department has previously taken disciplinary measures against officials over allegations of negligence, misconduct and failures in the performance of their duties.

The suspension does not, by itself, constitute a final finding of wrongdoing. Further departmental proceedings are expected to determine the circumstances surrounding the allegations and establish whether any disciplinary violations occurred.

A senior police official said the matter would be dealt with under the applicable Police Discipline Rules, with further action to follow the outcome of the departmental process.

For now, Zulfiqar Ali will remain attached to the Central Police Office in Lahore and will not perform his previous duties as SDPO Nankana unless further orders are issued.

The latest action reflects the Punjab Police leadership’s stated emphasis on maintaining discipline within the force and ensuring that officers meet expected standards of conduct and efficiency.
