Former US White House press secretary Katie Zacharia has faced renewed criticism following an interview with British journalist Piers Morgan, during which he challenged her responses about her brief tenure in President Donald Trump’s administration.
Zacharia served as White House press secretary for five days. Her first and only press briefing lasted about 14 minutes, during which she took questions from three reporters, drawing criticism over her performance.
During the interview on Morgan’s programme, Zacharia said she had expected the discussion to focus on the upcoming US midterm elections. Morgan responded that her departure from the White House was also an agreed topic of the interview.
Morgan accused Zacharia of avoiding his questions and said she sounded “like a robot” because she repeatedly redirected the discussion towards Trump’s record. Zacharia rejected the criticism, saying she wanted to focus on the president’s activities.
When Morgan pressed her about her departure from the White House, Zacharia declined to discuss private conversations with Trump. She defended her loyalty to the president and indicated that she continued to support him.
The interview also prompted criticism on social media platform X, where some users mocked Zacharia’s speaking style and accused her of repeatedly defending Trump rather than directly answering questions. Others urged her to stop giving interviews about her departure.
