LAHORE: The Power Division has reported significant progress in clearing the backlog of net metering applications, with 11,695 cases out of a total of 16,654 pending applications now verified and cleared, providing relief to thousands of solar consumers across the country.

According to official data, authorities have expedited the processing of applications that had remained pending, while the remaining cases are currently under process. The development is expected to help consumers who have been waiting for the completion of formalities required to connect their solar systems to the national grid under the net metering mechanism.

The Power Division said the clearance of thousands of pending applications reflects efforts to streamline the net metering process and reduce delays faced by households, businesses and other consumers seeking to benefit from solar energy.

Under the net metering system, consumers who generate electricity through solar panels can supply surplus power to the national grid, subject to applicable rules and regulatory requirements. The system has become increasingly important as more households and businesses in Pakistan turn towards solar energy to reduce electricity costs and meet their energy needs.

The authorities have also taken steps to improve communication with consumers regarding the status of their applications. “All applications are being processed through the relevant system. No fee other than official charges is required,” the Power Division stated.

Consumers whose applications are still pending have been advised to regularly check their application status through the designated SMS, WhatsApp and online tracking facilities. Authorities said applicants should remain cautious of individuals demanding unofficial payments or making claims of having special access to officials or processing systems.
