Government welcomes JI proposals on petroleum levy

The government has welcomed workable proposals from Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) on the petroleum levy and rising petrol prices.

Government and JI delegations held talks at the Ministry of Planning office in Islamabad.

The meeting focused on the abolition of the petroleum levy and measures to address the rising cost of petrol.

The JI delegation was led by Liaquat Baloch. Farasat Shah, Nasrullah Randhawa and other members were also part of the delegation.

Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal led the government delegation. Senator Rana Sanaullah, Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik and Bilal Azhar Kayani also attended the meeting.

According to the Ministry of Planning, both sides discussed the petroleum levy and the impact of rising fuel prices on the public.

Ahsan Iqbal said the government would welcome proposals that could be practically implemented.

He said the government would also explain its position on proposals that could not be implemented.

The minister said the government would seek the views of relevant institutions on the suggestions presented by JI.

He added that the second round of negotiations would be held within three days after receiving feedback from the concerned institutions.

The talks are part of ongoing discussions between the government and JI over measures to provide relief to consumers facing higher fuel prices.
