Natural spring emerges at Islamabad’s Zero Point

A natural spring has emerged in the middle of the road at Zero Point on Islamabad Expressway following recent rains, creating difficulties for the Capital Development Authority (CDA) as it attempts to control the strong flow of water.

CDA Director General Water Sardar Zamri said the water was not leaking from the authority’s pipeline but was coming from an underground natural spring.

According to Zamri, recent rainfall has raised the underground water table, causing the spring to surface at Zero Point. He said CDA teams were cleaning the drainage line alongside the road and carrying out deeper excavation to reduce the pressure of the water.

The official said underground springs had also appeared at other locations in Islamabad following the rains. These included an area beneath the hill near the Pakistan Monument and a hill located alongside Ministers’ Enclave.

Zamri described the rise in Islamabad’s underground water levels as a positive development, particularly as the city had been facing water shortages. Reports in May and June had indicated that groundwater levels in the capital were declining.

Authorities are continuing work at Zero Point to manage the water flow and prevent disruption to traffic on the busy expressway.
