ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has intensified its plantation and landscaping activities across Islamabad as part of its efforts to expand the city’s green cover and preserve its reputation as one of the world’s greener capitals.

The latest phase of the campaign has seen the planting of Sapium trees along 7th Avenue, a major road corridor of the federal capital. According to officials, plantation sites and tree species are being selected with consideration for Islamabad’s existing green belts, landscape requirements and long-term environmental sustainability.

The CDA Environment Wing said the campaign is aimed at improving the city’s overall environment by increasing tree cover, enhancing roadside landscapes and contributing to better air quality. The initiative also seeks to make public spaces more attractive while creating a healthier urban environment for residents.

Officials stressed that the authority is pursuing plantation as a continuous programme rather than limiting it to a particular season. Along with planting new trees, attention is also being directed towards the protection and maintenance of existing green belts and landscaped areas.

Greater urban vegetation can provide shade, help moderate temperatures, support biodiversity and contribute to cleaner air, making the preservation of Islamabad’s green spaces an important part of the city’s long-term development.

The ongoing plantation drive forms part of the CDA’s wider environmental and horticultural initiatives, which include landscaping major avenues, maintaining green belts and improving public spaces across the capital.

A CDA spokesperson said the campaign reflects the authority’s commitment to protecting Islamabad’s distinctive character as a planned, green and visually attractive city.

The authority has also appealed to citizens to help protect newly planted trees and contribute to keeping public spaces clean and environmentally sustainable.
