ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Medical & Dental Council (PM&DC) President Prof. Dr. Rizwan Taj visited the Armed Forces Post Graduate Medical Institute (AFPGMI) on Monday and reviewed the institute’s academic, professional training and public health activities.

During his visit, Prof. Dr. Rizwan Taj was received at the Administrative Block by the Commandant, Deputy Commandant and Director Training of AFPGMI. The PM&DC President held a detailed interaction with the Commandant, during which matters relating to medical education, postgraduate training and institutional development were discussed.

The visiting official was subsequently given a comprehensive briefing on the academic and training structure of AFPGMI at the MCR Administrative Block. The briefing was attended by senior officers and heads of various departments of the institute. Officials highlighted the institute’s academic framework, training programmes and activities aimed at strengthening the professional capabilities of medical personnel.

Following the formal briefing, Prof. Dr. Rizwan Taj participated in an interactive session with faculty members. The session provided an opportunity for faculty to share their views and discuss matters related to medical education, professional training and the academic environment.
The PM&DC President also visited the Faruki Auditorium and MBS Library, where he was briefed about the facilities available at the institute. Officials explained the role of these facilities in supporting teaching, learning, research and other academic activities for students and faculty members.
During his visit to the Training Wing, Prof. Dr. Rizwan Taj interacted with members of the faculty as well as MSc students. The interaction focused on the academic and training environment and provided students an opportunity to engage with the head of the national medical regulatory body.
The PM&DC President later visited the Department of Public Health, where he received a briefing on the department’s ongoing activities and initiatives. He was also given a demonstration of the Disease Early Warning System (DEWS) dashboard, which is used to support the monitoring and early identification of disease-related trends and public health concerns.
The visit provided Prof. Dr. Rizwan Taj an opportunity to observe the institute’s academic infrastructure, training facilities and public health initiatives while interacting with senior officers, faculty members and students.
At the conclusion of the visit, Prof. Dr. Rizwan Taj recorded his remarks in the visitors’ book. The Commandant of AFPGMI later presented the PM&DC President with a souvenir as a gesture of appreciation before he departed from the institute.
The visit underscored the importance of continued engagement between medical regulatory authorities and leading institutions involved in postgraduate medical education, professional training and public health.
