TURIN: Juventus have strengthened their goalkeeping options with the signing of Italy international Guglielmo Vicario from Tottenham Hotspur on a one-year loan, with the Serie A giants holding an option to make the transfer permanent.
The 29-year-old goalkeeper arrives in Turin after three seasons in the Premier League and is expected to compete for, and potentially take over, the starting role from Michele Di Gregorio.
Juventus confirmed the move in a statement welcoming Vicario to the club, describing him as the latest addition to their squad ahead of the new campaign.
The Italian goalkeeper joins at a crucial stage for Juventus, who will compete in the Europa League this season after missing out on Champions League qualification.
Vicario’s move also brings an end to an important chapter of his career in England. He joined Tottenham from Empoli in 2023 after developing his career across several Italian clubs, including Udinese, Venezia, Perugia and Cagliari.
During his time with Tottenham, Vicario made 117 appearances across competitions and recorded 29 clean sheets. His performances helped establish him as one of the club’s key players after arriving from Serie A.
However, his position became less secure towards the end of last season. Under manager Roberto De Zerbi, Antonin Kinsky emerged as Tottenham’s preferred goalkeeper, leaving Vicario facing increased competition for regular first-team football.
The situation opened the door for Juventus to make their move.
For the Turin club, Vicario brings experience of both Serie A and European competition, as well as an understanding of the demands of playing for a major Italian side.
His arrival could also provide Juventus with greater depth and competition in one of the most important positions on the pitch.
Vicario was part of the Tottenham squad that enjoyed a memorable European campaign in 2025, contributing to the club’s Europa League success.
Now, the Italian goalkeeper returns to his homeland with an opportunity to revive his career at one of Italy’s biggest clubs.
With Juventus preparing for a season that includes European football, Vicario’s performances could play a major role in determining whether the club eventually exercises its option to sign him permanently.
For the goalkeeper, meanwhile, the move represents a fresh start—and a chance to become a key figure between the posts in Turin.
