GUJRANWALA/LAHORE: A case involving the alleged assault of a young tuition teacher and her mother in Nowshera Virkan has taken a major turn after Gujranwala police registered a case and arrested the accused following intervention by City Police Officer (CPO) Dr Sardar Ghias Gul Khan.
The incident reportedly began when the teacher asked a student’s family to clear two months of outstanding tuition fees. According to the victim’s family, the student’s father allegedly entered their home, verbally abused the teacher, slapped her and her mother, and tore the young woman’s clothes during a confrontation.
The family also alleged that the accused threatened them with serious consequences if they pursued legal action.
The case drew public attention after Minute Mirror editor Asad Kharal highlighted the family’s allegations on social media and appealed to Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif for intervention.
Family alleges assault and police inaction
According to the family, the young teacher comes from a financially struggling household in Nowshera Virkan and provides home tuition to help support her family and continue her education.
The family said the teacher and her mother sought medical attention following the alleged assault and obtained a medico-legal certificate (MLC).
They subsequently approached Nowshera Virkan police station to lodge a complaint. However, the family alleged that they were made to wait for several hours without the registration of a formal case and were eventually told to return the following day.
They further claimed that the accused continued to threaten them during the ordeal.
These allegations concerning the initial police response require independent verification.
CPO orders action, police confirm arrests
Following the case’s circulation on social media, the Gujranwala CPO took notice of the incident and sought action from the relevant police officials.
An official Gujranwala police statement, shared through the CPO’s social media account, said that a case had been registered and the suspects had been arrested in connection with the alleged assault on the female tuition teacher.
The police also stated that legal action would follow in light of the evidence and that the accused would be brought to justice in accordance with the law.
The arrests mark a significant development in the case, although the allegations must still be examined through a fair investigation and judicial proceedings.
Questions remain over police response
The incident has raised concerns about how complaints from financially vulnerable families are handled at police stations.
The family’s allegations have prompted calls for an inquiry into the reported delay in registering the case, as well as protection against possible retaliation.
Minute Mirror has called for the preservation of the teacher’s medical records, the alleged torn clothing, witness statements and any available digital evidence. It has also demanded legal assistance for the family and accountability for any official negligence established through an inquiry.
The case has highlighted the difficulties faced by vulnerable complainants seeking justice and the importance of ensuring that allegations of violence are investigated without discrimination.
With the accused reportedly arrested and a formal case registered, attention now turns to the investigation, the collection of evidence and the legal proceedings needed to establish responsibility.
