US actress and singer Hailee Steinfeld has said becoming a mother has helped her discover new things about herself, six months after welcoming her first child with husband Josh Allen.
Steinfeld reflected on motherhood in the November 3 edition of her “Beau Society” newsletter, published on Substack, in response to a reader’s question.
“There’s a long answer, but I’ll give the short one here: I’ve learned just how much of myself I still have to discover,” she wrote.
“I thought becoming a mom would be this transformative experience about loving someone else, and it is that 1000 percent,” she added.
“But what I didn’t expect is how much she’s teaching me about myself,” Steinfeld continued. “She’s made me more patient, more present, and so much more aware of how special the little things are.”
The actress also reflected on the difficulty of following the advice she regularly gives to others.
“I’m really good at reminding people that they’re human, that things take time, and that everything happens for a reason, and it will all fall into place — how, when, and where it should — and that they don’t have to have everything all figured out,” she wrote.
“But I’m not always the best at taking that advice myself,” she added.
Steinfeld and Allen announced the birth of their daughter, Harper, in April. The couple married in May 2025.
