Pakistan’s national red-ball training camp is currently underway in Lahore under the supervision of Test team head coach Sarfaraz Ahmed.
Due to fitness concerns affecting several players, the selection committee has called up additional cricketers. However, the inclusion of right-handed batter and off-spin bowler Hamza Nazar has come as a surprise.
The all-rounder, who made his first-class debut in November 2014, represented Sialkot in four of the team’s 10 matches during this year’s Quaid-e-Azam Trophy where Sialkot reached the final. He scored 245 runs in seven innings at an average of 35.00, including three half-centuries, finishing 61st among the tournament’s leading run-scorers.
With the ball, he ranked 27th taking 11 wickets in total at an average of 22.28.
However, while representing Khan Research Laboratories (KRL) in the 2025–26 President’s Trophy, Hamza played six matches scoring 385 runs at an average of 42.78 including one century and one half-century.
At the UBL Sports Complex, the right-handed batter produced a remarkable innings of 175 runs off 202 balls, smashing 14 fours and 10 sixes against PTV while batting at number seven. He also claimed eight wickets in six matches with his off-spin.
According to reports, Hamza Nazar is being considered for selection for Pakistan’s upcoming tours of the West Indies and England. When contacted, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) stated that Hamza is a talented all-rounder.
Responding to questions about his performances in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy and President’s Trophy, the PCB said Hamza has been among the top 10 all-rounders over the past two years.
Interestingly, despite making his first-class debut in 2014, Hamza has played only 16 first-class matches over a span of 12 years.
Across those matches, he has scored 748 runs at an average of 29.92 and taken 26 wickets at an average of 37.23.
Another point of confusion is his age. The PCB website lists him as 31 years old with a date of birth of July 2, 1995 while ESPNcricinfo lists him as 27 years old, with a date of birth of March 2, 1999.
