Hezbollah warns Israel over ceasefire violations

BEIRUT: Lebanon’s Hezbollah movement has issued a strong warning to Israel, stating that any violation of the current ceasefire agreement will be met with a proportional and immediate response, raising concerns of renewed escalation along the volatile Israel-Lebanon border.

In a sharply worded statement, Mahmoud Qamati, deputy head of Hezbollah’s political council, said the group would not remain silent if Israel resumes what it described as aggressive actions or breaches of the ceasefire terms.

According to Iranian media outlet Press TV, Qamati emphasized that Hezbollah is fully prepared for any possible escalation and is closely monitoring Israeli military activity along the border region.

“We will not return to the previous situation in which Israeli forces carried out near-daily strikes inside Lebanon while we exercised restraint in respect of the ceasefire,” he said, signaling a more assertive posture from the Lebanese resistance group.

He further stressed that Hezbollah’s fighters remain in a state of full readiness, adding that the organization is constantly tracking developments and maintaining high alert levels in anticipation of any Israeli military movement.

Qamati underlined that Lebanon’s sovereignty and national security are non-negotiable, warning that any breach of the ceasefire agreement would be met with a response “in the same manner and scale.”

The statement comes at a time when fragile ceasefire arrangements between Israel and Hezbollah continue to hold, albeit under significant strain. In recent weeks, both sides have accused each other of violations, fueling fears that the situation could spiral back into open confrontation.

International observers have expressed concern over the rising rhetoric, warning that renewed hostilities could destabilize an already fragile regional security environment.
