IHC halts eviction of one constitution avenue residents ahead of Eid

The Islamabad High Court has granted temporary relief to residents of One Constitution Avenue by stopping their eviction until further notice.

During the hearing, counsel Sardar Taimur Aslam informed the court that the Capital Development Authority had requested more time to obtain directions from its board. He stated that the CDA chairman was currently abroad and the matter would be discussed in an upcoming board meeting.

The lawyer told the court that a residents’ committee had already been formed to manage the building and argued that the arrangement should not create any issue for the CDA.

He further said that a committee constituted by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif was also reviewing the matter, and its recommendations would later be presented before the federal cabinet before being sent to the CDA board for approval.

Sardar Taimur Aslam also requested the court to allow the residents to continue occupying the apartments during the Eid al-Adha holidays.

After hearing the arguments, the court ordered that apartment owners should not be evicted until further proceedings in the case.
