Inflationary pressures continued to increase in Pakistan during the third week of September 2026, with the weekly inflation rate rising by 0.99 percent. According to data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), the annual inflation rate increased from 10.64 percent to 11.92 percent during the period under review.

The latest figures show that prices of 20 essential commodities increased during the week while 10 items became cheaper and prices of 21 commodities remained unchanged.

Electricity recorded the highest notable increase among several essential items, with its price rising by 18.76 percent. The price of garlic increased by 1.57 percent, while LPG became 1.55 percent more expensive. Prices of masoor dal and gram dal rose by 0.75 percent and 0.34 percent, respectively.

Other food and household items also witnessed price increases. Chicken became 0.72 percent more expensive, while eggs recorded a 2.02 percent increase. The prices of washing soap, mutton, beef, milk, yogurt and flour rose by 0.59 percent, 0.31 percent, 0.30 percent, 0.14 percent, 0.27 percent and 0.11 percent, respectively.

On the other hand, several commodities became cheaper during the week. Tomato prices fell by 13.45 percent, while potato prices declined by 8.33 percent. Banana prices decreased by 5.66 percent and onion prices dropped by 2.42 percent. High-speed diesel became 1.57 percent cheaper, while salt powder and petrol prices declined by 0.90 percent and 0.34 percent, respectively.

The PBS data also showed varying inflation rates across income groups. For households earning up to Rs17,732 per month, annual inflation stood at 9.69 percent. For those earning between Rs17,733 and Rs22,888, inflation reached 11.37 percent.

For the income group earning between Rs22,889 and Rs29,517 per month, annual inflation was recorded at 9.85 percent. Inflation stood at 10.20 percent for households earning between Rs29,518 and Rs44,175.

Meanwhile, the highest annual inflation rate was recorded among households earning more than Rs44,176 per month, where it reached 12.31 percent.

The latest figures indicate that inflationary pressures remained elevated across several essential food, energy and household items during the third week of September.
