ISLAMABAD: Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni met Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in Islamabad on Tuesday during his official visit to Pakistan. The meeting took place at the Prime Minister’s House, where the two leaders discussed matters of mutual interest and ways to strengthen cooperation between the two neighbouring countries.

Although officials confirmed the meeting, detailed information about the discussions was not immediately released.

Earlier in the day, Momeni attended a ceremonial parade at the Islamabad Police Lines. He praised the professionalism, discipline and dedication of Islamabad Police officers. During the ceremony, he presented awards to officers in recognition of their outstanding performance and public service.

Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry accompanied the Iranian minister during the event. Islamabad Inspector General of Police Ali Nasir Rizvi and several senior police officials were also present.

As part of his visit, Momeni toured the Pakistan Monument in Islamabad. A contingent of the Federal Constabulary presented him with a guard of honour. He received a detailed briefing on the history of the Pakistan Monument and the National Martyrs’ Memorial.

The Iranian minister appreciated Pakistan’s national heritage and praised the historical significance of the monument. He also visited Shakarparian, where he viewed Islamabad and the Margalla Hills. Federal Constabulary Inspector General Riaz Nazir Gara, Deputy Inspector General of Police Muhammad Jawad Tariq and other officials accompanied him.

Momeni arrived in Pakistan on Monday with a high-level delegation. The delegation includes senior Iranian officials from the interior, transport and agriculture ministries, the governor of Sistan-Baluchistan, and representatives from the National Iranian Oil Company.

The visit comes at a time of renewed tensions in the Middle East following fresh military exchanges between the United States and Iran. The situation has raised concerns about regional stability and the security of international shipping routes.

Pakistan and Iran are expected to expand cooperation in several areas, including border security, trade, transit, agriculture and regional security. Both countries are also working to increase bilateral trade from $3 billion to $10 billion through stronger economic cooperation.
