Iraola Hails Isak’s explosive liverpool comeback

Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola has praised Alexander Isak’s impressive return to form, expressing confidence in the striker’s ability to deliver consistently after overcoming an injury-hit debut season.

The Swedish international has scored six goals in seven Premier League appearances, including three in his last three matches, showing signs of living up to his £125 million transfer fee following his controversial departure from Newcastle.

Iraola highlighted the importance of mutual trust between Isak and his teammates, stressing that the forward must contribute to the team’s overall performance to create more scoring opportunities.

The Liverpool boss made the comments ahead of his side’s League Cup fourth-round clash against Chelsea at Anfield, as he targets a fifth consecutive victory across all competitions.

Iraola acknowledged the expectations surrounding Liverpool, saying every competition presents an opportunity to win silverware. However, he stressed that beating a strong Chelsea side would require a disciplined and determined performance.

Having replaced Arne Slot, Iraola also recognised that winning over Liverpool supporters would take time. He praised the fans for their support during Sunday’s 2-0 victory over Brighton, highlighting his players’ commitment, defensive effort and fighting spirit.

Meanwhile, Iraola expressed optimism about Florian Wirtz’s potential availability for the Chelsea encounter, although Victor Munoz and Dominik Szoboszlai were less likely to feature. He confirmed that changes to the starting lineup were expected as Liverpool prepared for another demanding fixture.
