Pakistan captain Shaheen Afridi has expressed disappointment over his team’s repeated top-order failures after Sri Lanka secured a dominant eight-wicket victory in the ODI tri-series at Gaddafi Stadium on Tuesday.
Batting first, Pakistan were dismissed for just 110 runs in less than 25 overs, with Sri Lankan pacer Dilshan Madushanka claiming five wickets. Sri Lanka comfortably chased the target in under 18 overs, losing only two wickets. Kamindu Mendis led the charge with an unbeaten 62 off 60 deliveries.
Afridi acknowledged that Pakistan’s batting order had struggled in recent matches despite the team’s earlier victories. He urged his players to put the defeat behind them, focus on their preparations and improve their batting performance ahead of the final.
Pakistan will have three days to regroup before returning to action in the tri-series final, scheduled for October 31 at Gaddafi Stadium.
Meanwhile, the defeat confirmed England’s elimination from the competition after they failed to secure a victory in their first three matches. Sri Lanka have booked their place in the final following their convincing win over Pakistan.
